ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: GOLIATH PAW
Goliath Paw, better known on campus as Gam, first attended Canadore College where he earned himself a diploma in business administration before transferring credits to Nipissing University and getting a degree in marketing. Goliath’s many years at both Canadore and Nipissing gave him an invaluable perspective on student life and countless memorable opportunities to party on both Canadore and Nipissing’s residences. These nights out in the heart of the North gave Goliath a feel for what his peers were experiencing and seeking out musically, which he carries over in his songwriting, and he feels gives him a unique perspective on Canadian music.
Goliath tries to stray from your typical one dimensional hip-hop artist. By incorporating themes from every genre such as rock, reggae and pop, he has added his own twists to the field in an attempt to create a unique blend of hip-hop that has already drawn him fans across Europe and South America. This global reach is testament to Goliath’s unique style of both his songwriting and his lyrical flow which transcends borders and cultures. By making his music unique yet relatable, he attempts to form personal attachments with each fan rather than recycle those pointless themes that litters the Top-40 charts.
Goliath’s first major industry showcase took place this November at COCA, a non-profit organization that brings campus organizers from across Canada to view different types of entertainment. Being chosen for the conference in Mississauga gave him a great opportunity for his music to garner credible feedback, as well as allowing him to network with the campus entertainment scene as an independent artist and further integrate himself into the Canadian music scene. Since then, Goliath has set his sights on being selected for COCA’s National conference this April in Montreal, where he hopes to spread his distinctive hip-hop sensibilities not only across Ontario, but Canada and beyond.
