recap
Responsibilities – who came up with that awful word? It carries the weight of the world on its shoulders with little to nothing in return. But, in reality, we wouldn’t be the productive and organized people we are today without some kind of responsible initiative to look forward to. We assume that responsibilities are either work or school related; which is true, but not all responsibilities are in that nature. The day I came to Nipissing University, I was faced with the responsibility of moving all of my possessions from my home of 19 years to a new place, with a couple of hundred other students in the exact same shoes I was in.

Although I had friends who lived in North Bay already, it was the fact of stepping past that threshold between home and school, with a entirely new set of responsibilities; some examples would be: Who’s first to do the dishes? Who was smart enough to bring a N64 with Mario tennis and 4 controllers? Or, who’s old enough in my dorm to buy the alcohol for the night? -Things of that nature- In my case, my one roommate was thinking before he came, and brought up a full set of guitar hero which was enough to break the ice and start us all off on the right path the first night in; which also eased the burden for my parents dropping me off at school then heading to Italy for a week of vacation. Love you guys too. With that said, although my parents were sipping on some freshly farmed merlot on a wine vineyard in Venice my first week away, there was no place in the world I would have rather been than right here with my new found friends.

School has taught me to not only respect everyone new that I meet, but to take pride in my actions away from home, and understand that every new responsibility isn’t a burden, but a challenge to show fellow friends, students, teachers or employers what my true potential is. Frosh Week is merely a stepping-stone in our University careers, and is here for us to make what we want out of it. Your currently sitting in a room filled with 12 groups of Frosh Leaders who were in the same place you were in only a few years ago; and look how we turned out (no comments please). All in all, as goofy as us Frosh Leaders may seem at some times, there’s a story behind each and every one of us; all grained with interesting stories from our lives up here in the great white north. Take each day one step at a time, and remember, we all love talking about ourselves, so ask us about our University experiences at any time; except Johnny Stevenson, that guys a little weird.

Thank you.
